Bachelor in Germany Requirements |Undergraduate Education in Germany

I am here with a new blog in which we will discuss how to do Bachelors in Germany. So if you are planning to go to Germany to do Bachelors, then we are seeing that.

Bachelors Programs in Germany

First of all, the Bachelors programs in Germany are mostly in the German language, which means you will have to learn German first. There are some programs in English, but such programs are very few. The rest of the public universities mostly offer German programs, and they are free of cost.

In this blog, I will also cover those courses, i.e., German language courses, Bachelors in the German language.

Admission Process

We will see what is the retirement for the students who want to come to India from Pakistan and when it is. For these programs, after 12 years, you get admission to the university, and then you study for 4 years. But here, you do not get admission after 12 years; you get admission after 13 years.

Thirteen years of education is required for admission to the university. After that, if your course is 3 years, then it is almost done. The 13th year will be your foundation year, which in German we call Studenten Kolleg.

These are the 13 years which are foundational. You can do this in Germany also and avoid it.

Categories of Students

Let us see how to deal with it. First of all, two categories of students will be created: one for those who have done A-level and another for those who have done FSC Intermediate.

A-Level Students

For A-level students, 13 years of education is required; only their A-level will do. But there are some conditions, like they must have given an exam in at least one language, be it Urdu, English, or any other language. Secondly, if they have studied any subject related to the course for which they are applying, then they can apply directly for Bachelors.

However, they need German proficiency, which is at the B2 or C1 level. They must be able to read technical terms and perform their studies in the German language.

FSC or Intermediate Students

Now let’s talk about the other category: those who have done FSC or Intermediate. It is mandatory for them to spend the 13th year, which is called Studenten Kolleg.

In this, they study technical subjects related to their intended course. For example, if you are going into engineering, you will be taught mathematics and technical German, which you will study later.

For admission in this Studenten Kolleg course, you will need a German proficiency test with a minimum requirement of B1. There is also a test for admission to the Studenten Kolleg, called Aufnahmetest.

The foundation year has different types: one for engineering students, one for medical students, and one for arts students. For arts students, there is a fill-in-the-blanks type test to assess their German level.

When you take admission in the Studenten Kolleg, you study for one year and then take the university entrance examination for admission in the university. After that, you can start your bachelor’s degree, which will last three years.

Language Learning and Admission Process

Now, regarding the procedure for FSC students, after completing the language requirement, they will take admission and then give a test before starting their bachelor’s degree.

Students go to Germany to study the language. They need a conditional letter from the university, stating that they will study the language. Then they can come to Germany on a language visa, learn the language, and after that, take admission in the foundation year.

This method is extensive, but it allows students to learn the language according to the local environment. You can also learn German from Pakistan and take admission in the Studenten Kolleg directly.

Alternatives to Foundation Year

If you wish to avoid the foundation year, first complete your Intermediate or FSC. Then, find a bachelor’s program in Germany that matches what you have studied. You will take admission in a university in Pakistan that has a similar program. After that, check the retirement requirements of universities in Germany to see if they accept your credits.

If your credits are accepted, then there is no need for the foundation year, but proficiency in the German language is still mandatory since the instruction will be in German.

This covers the basic requirements you need to do Bachelors in Germany. If you have any questions regarding Studenten Kolleg or the university entrance examination, I can make a separate blog on that.
